One Week in Lisbon

I returned from Lisbon, Portugal a week ago. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. The food was exceptional, the sights were gorgeous, and the people were kind. I am now back in the states, wondering how to adjust back to “normal” while my head is still buzzing from the trip. I am looking forward to seeing what direction my art heads with the new found inspiration from Lisbon’s colors, tiles, and architecture.

Food is always in forefront of my mind, and this trip was no exception. Our days revolved around lunch plans and dinner reservations planned months in advance. What connected every single meal were the humble bites that encompassed the essence of Portuguese food. Every restaurant prided their use of locally sourced ingredients and wine. We enjoyed so many creative uses of pork, pastry, and seafood which was exactly what we had signed up for. Below are what I consider the highlight restaurants and meals of our trip.

10 Favorite Restaurant Experiences

  1. Taberna da Rua das Flores

  2. Lupita

  3. A Cevicheria

  4. Confeitaria Nacional

  5. Dear Breakfast

  6. Ponto Final

  7. Pigmeu

  8. Oficio

  9. Prado

  10. Plano

Naturally, the sights were just as impressive as the food. Whether up close or from afar, it was incredible how much there was to visually take in around every corner. I loved the juxtaposition of modern street art alongside the infamous decorative tiles. We soaked in the maritime and naval history in Belem where we truly grasped just how much history is part of this stunning city and country. I was overwhelmed by the amount of art museums there were to visit and am already plotting which ones I’ll go to on my next trip. The National Tile Museum was definitely my favorite. It was interesting to see the original process of physically creating the tiles with powder and fat to create the pigments. I especially loved their cafe that felt like an indoor jungle.
