Top 10 Highlights of 2021

What a year it has been! From diving head first into mural design, launching new paper-goods, gaining new gallery representation to pivoting to almost full time as a working artist. It certainly has been a year of growth, challenge, and change. I am humbled by the opportunities that I experienced and look forward to what the next year brings.

In the meantime I want to say a sincere thank you to all of you out there who follow this creative journey of mine. It would not be possible without you! Cheers to a bright, healthy, successful new year!

1. Fluttr Partnership

Last year kicked off with an announcement of my partnership with a new greeting card company called Fluttr. I am excited to share that they will be relaunching in the new year! Stay tuned for more details.

2. Pop Up @ Julia Deckmans Studio

Collaborating with both The Miller Gallery and Julia Deckman Studio for a Pop-Up Exhibit was so much fun! I loved seeing my work hang in my friend’s beautiful space.

3. Earthly Delights at The Miller Gallery

My April exhibit with Kate Hooray Osmond and Charlotte Filbert at The Miller Gallery was a joy to be part of. All three of us painted what brings us absolute delight. I focused on Lowcountry ingredients that I love to use in the kitchen as my subjects. Only one piece is still available of mine from this collection!

4. Charleston Symphony Tour of Homes

The @schumacher1889 citrus garden inspired commission painting for a South of Broad client’s kitchen was one of my favorite paintings I created this year. The commission process was facilitated by The Miller Gallery and Ali Miller Bechtel - an absolute delight. The painting was featured on the Charleston Symphony Orchestra’s South of Broad Tour of Homes. Best of all it introduced me to my latest artist obsession - Josef Frank - who designed the original citrus garden print.

5. RL Jones Mural in Mt. Pleasant

This past Spring, @captompsc reached out regarding a mural project at the R. L. Jones Center in Mt. Pleasant. They were looking for an ocean inspired scene to adorn a 5’ x 115’ wall on the exterior of their recreation facility. I knew I couldn’t pass on the opportunity to paint something at that scale! I am so proud to share that this is my largest project to date. You can view my behind the scenes video in my bio or check out my blog post here.

6. The Gallery at Sweetgrass

This Summer, Wild Dunes Resort opened an art gallery called The Gallery at Sweetgrass. I was asked to be part of their artist roster and it has been such a joy to be part of this community! We have coordinated live paint nights for club members and put on a Lowcountry inspired group exhibit called Roam. They have a beautiful collection of coastal inspired work in their space that is not to be missed!

7. Affordable Art Fair

My work exhibited at the Fall 2021 Affordable Art Fair in NYC! It was a joy and honored to create the work for this event. I am endlessly grateful to The Miller Gallery for submitting my work to be selected and for representing me in the big apple. See the collection on my blog here.

8. Park and Grove Mural

The mural I installed at Park & Grove in downtown Charleston was one of my favorite projects all year. This install was a major throw back to my days painting at Whole Foods and I loved everything about it. I am delighted to have my work at this scale in the middle of downtown Charleston. See more behind the scenes from this project here.

9. Collaboration with Julia Deckman Studio

Julia Deckman Studio is a creative haven in Charleston. She is constantly encouraging artists and providing opportunities via her studio space and retail shop. We put our heads together and created a candle label for the studio with a design I created! The candles were poured by locally owned Candlefish. I am thrilled with how they came out and they smell absolutely incredible!

10. Lots of Art!

This year I have been focused on increasing my output. I love to perfect things and in the past few years I have had a tendency to overwork pieces. Now, I am shifting toward loosening my movements and letting things be considered done sooner than I would have been comfortable doing so in the past. I know the work will only improve when I’ve made ALOT of it. Without further delay… here are a couple of my favorites from this year!

Goal for 2022

Working on my why to build more meaningful connections. I want to better articulate why I am over-the-top obsessed with food and everything about it. From sourcing ingredients, cooking new recipes, to sharing a labored over meal with my loved ones. It’s the most important part of my life and is what dictates so much of the decisions I make in my life. My goal this year to talk about why that matters to my community and beyond.
