Affordable Art Fair NYC

I was selected by the Affordable Art Fair NYC to exhibit with The Miller Gallery at their fall fair. It has been a long awaited honor to fulfill, having been chosen in 2019 to participate prior to the pandemic. The time finally arrived, and the fair took place this past weekend Sept 23-26th, 2021.

I knew that I wanted the artwork to be playful and a subject that I haven’t explored yet. With so much time spent at home, it felt fitting to paint what some people find as an escape - happy hour. I know when everything first shut down, sitting outside in the sun with a gin & tonic was the highlight of my day.

Keeping on theme with my love for small details, I began to draw garnishes, cocktails, and tiki umbrellas. I loved working with bold colors to depict glassware. I also enjoyed staging reference photos with real tiki umbrellas. I mean how fun?!

Given this exciting opportunity, it felt important for me to gain a deeper understanding of art fairs and their origins. If you’re curious too, check out the deep dive blog post I wrote for The Miller Gallery.
