Kid's Summer Painting Classes

As long as I’ve wanted to be an artist, people have asked me if I planned to be an art teacher when I grew up. From a young age I understood that I wanted to experience as much as I could before I took that path. Fast forward 10 years after graduating from college, I am finally dipping my toe into education. It’s been a whirlwind learning on the spot and has been very rewarding seeing the end results.

The program has included 6 individual days of painting classes, one day per week. The lessons have been individual, with new students participating each week. The age range has been 5-12, more of a summer camp feel than a classroom setting where the students are all the same age. The focus of each lesson has been to learn about a famous artist from history books. We have covered Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Vincent Van Gogh. Through dice games the kid’s are led through step by step how to create a masterpiece inspired by these artists. Creating a drawing first and then moving to paint has been a great exercise in breaking down how to create a finished painting.

I believe that creating artwork is fundamental and essential for children’s development.  It is a place where they can be messy, make mistakes, and tune into their own visions. It also creates an opportunity to look at the world with a new perspective and love. If you’re interested in private lessons for you child, feel free to get in touch.
